What To Do If Bridesmaid Dress is Too Small?

It can be really irritating if your ordered bridesmaid’s dress doesn’t fit. This seems to be a common problem, but here are a few ideas on what to do if your bridesmaid dress doesn’t fit. 

So what should you do if your bridesmaid dress is too small? Your first option is to simply order another dress that is one size bigger or smaller than your original. This usually only works if you have plenty of time before the wedding. If you have limited time, you could take in the seams of the dress, or add fabric to make the dress bigger. It all depends on your situation.

How Long Does it Take to Get a Bridesmaid Dress Altered?

Everything in a wedding has a process, and some such as alterations can take longer than others. Here is a time frame of what to expect when getting a bridesmaid dress altered. 

30 days. Depending on your situation it may take as long as 30 days to get your alterations done for your bridesmaid dress. You may want to keep in mind to leave a 30 to 60 days time span for having your dress altered. Keep in mind there may also be many fittings and alterations done on one dress, let alone how many bridesmaids you will have. 

1-2 weeks. If you have very few alterations that need to be done, your dress may be ready as soon as 1 to 2 weeks. If you know that your dresses need very little alterations, you do not need to schedule so much time prior to your wedding. Just keep in mind that there may still be problems after the first round of alterations and you may need time to have these problems resolved. 

How Much Does it Cost to Get a Bridesmaid Dress Altered?

If you have planned a wedding before, you probably know how expensive things can be. Here is what to expect when getting a bridesmaid dress altered. 

$75 or less. Dress alterations typically cost more than $75 to be altered, but if you have very minor alterations to be done it can cost less. Also, if your dress is very simple and less extravagant you may be able to get the dress altered for a much cheaper rate. 

$75 to $150. Most simple bridesmaid dress alterations will be between $75 and $150. Prices for alterations on bridesmaid dresses can be much more affordable than a wedding dress since bridesmaid dress isn’t as extravagant. But it all depends on that company you are having them done at, where you live, what needs to be done, etc. 

$300 to $500. This price range isn’t very common for bridesmaid dress alterations and is more typically expected for a wedding dress. But if there are several dresses, and lots of alterations to be done it could get pretty pricey. Overall, you should plan a budget of around $200 for each dress. Bridesmaids typically pay for their own dresses and sometimes pay for the bride’s dress as well.
